Pearls, Oud & Ambergris: Enduring Symbols that Inspire the World

Technical development, production, preassembly at the factory, installation, and setup of the entire exhibition, including audiovisual productions and their equipment and the integration of projections into the architecture, as well as the production and installation of graphics, showcases, mounts, and the exhibition pieces. All carried out under strict access requirements and security protocols at the Presidential Palace.

“Pearls, Oud & Ambergris: Enduring Symbols that Inspire the World” is conceived as an immersive journey that invites visitors to experience the rich cultural essence of treasures deeply embedded in Emirati heritage. The exhibition celebrates the spirit of the UAE through the lens of natural materials that have been elevated to a global art form. The narrative weaves together history, human craftsmanship, and cultural significance, illustrating how these elements form a vital link between the nation’s past, present, and future.

The visitor experience is designed to stimulate the senses through a blend of art, sound, and technology. Rather than relying on traditional screens, the exhibition utilizes the very architecture of the palace; the walls and ceilings serve as a dynamic canvas for integrated audiovisual projections.

Empty’s scope of work involved the complete technical development, production, and set-up of the exhibition. Because the project shares space with the “Diplomatic Gifts” gallery, the intervention required the dismantling of specific sections and the installation of a new raised floor system designed for seamless integration with the existing platform. The fit-out included the production of iconic bespoke features, alongside the installation of high-end showcases, graphics, lighting, and the integration of AV productions and equipment within the architecture.

Executing a the project presented significant logistical challenges. To maintain full public operations of the Presidential Palace during the day, all works were carried out during strictly controlled night shifts. Empty implemented a rigorous pre-fabrication strategy, with major elements pre-assembled off-site to ensure that on-site activity remained a “clean” assembly process. This coordination allowed the gallery to remain pristine for visitors every morning.
